Tips for Teacher Resumes

Teacher resumes need to start with the Certification and Education categories at the top. The resume should be chronological. Student Teaching should be left off after three to five years of experience.

Other categories include Tutoring, Coaching, Workshops, Committee Involvement, Community Service, Continuing Education, and Computer Skills.

Cover the grade levels you have experience teaching, the types of classrooms you've taught in e.g. inclusion or  self-contained, and what your teaching strategies are.

If you are an educator in a clinical, technical, or business field, be sure to cover what your field is, the environment you taught, and the type of students and how many e.g. children, adults, or community residents.

The resume should cover curriculums, lesson plans and units. Indicate how you taught and the tools you used such as hands-on lessons, lecture, or media, Smart Board Technology, etc.

A teacher's resume should always express a passion for working with children and inspiring students to become independent learners.

Tips for Teacher Cover Letters

In addition to a formal opening to let the reader know why you are contacting them e.g. because you just graduated / completed your student teaching or you are exploring a transfer from teaching within a private school or an inner city school district to a public school in a new area, you need to touch upon the most important points that must be made.

This includes mentioning the grade levels you have experience teaching, the types of classrooms you've taught in e.g. inclusion or  self-contained, and what your teaching strategies are and a bit about your mission statement.

If you are an educator in a clinical, technical, or business field, the same holds true. Be sure to cover what your field is, the environment you taught, and the type of students and how many e.g. children, adults, or community residents. And, indicate how you taught and the tools you used such as hands-on lessons, lecture, or media, etc.

Regardless of what is being conveyed, an educator's resume should always express a passion for working closely with learners and inspiring them to become lifelong learners.

The resume should cover specific curriculums, lesson plans and units.
